ACARBIO is a No Profit organization from Tramonti, a small village located in the rural area of the Amalfi Coast. The association was founded in 2009 to introduce innovate and sustainable practises and to support the candidacy of the Amalfi Coast as Unesco Biosphere Reserve.
Since its foundation, it has been involved in preservation of the local environment and cultural heritage, especially the traditional terraced landscape. The association carries out youth projects, environmental activities, and sustainable development initiatives throughout Southern Italy.
At the same time, this organization works to create an intercultural enviroment and build a bridge between local and international community.

Gewünschtes Freiwilligenprofil

We are looking for volunteers who are genuinely motivated to embrace the local culture and to live as part of a community, sharing daily life, spaces and tasks with both local people and the other volunteers on the project. This is meant to be a shared experience: volunteers should be open to learning new things while also contributing their own skills and knowledge. Applicants should be comfortable doing outdoor activities all year round, in all seasons and weather conditions, and should not mind working with their hands and getting dirty in the process. They should be willing to take part in growing, collecting and cooking food for the community, and should be comfortable living in a remote area, far from any large towns. A genuine curiosity to learn and experience new things is essential.

Beschreibung der Tätigkeit

This project takes place in Tramonti, a small rural mountain village in southern Italy, with the aim to regenerate the environment and heritage. The project centres on our community garden. You will live as part of our small community, taking on hands-on work: planting and harvesting seasonal produce and working with wood. As outdoor work depends on weather and season, you'll also take on office-based tasks. You will work alongside local farmers on food conservation and traditions, and research wild, edible plants used in local cooking, directly engaging with the biodiversity you'll help protect. You will also manage social media, write blog content, run sustainability workshops on recycling and reuse, and take part in educational activities with children.Throughout your stay you will be part of a small rural community, sharing daily tasks with local families and adapting to a life shaped by the land and seasons.

Weitere Informationen

The accommodation will be arranged in a shared apartment with other young people in Tramonti. Rooms are shared. This apartment will be in a reasonable distance to the office and the working places. All basic furniture and objects will be provided for. A set of rules are established for the accommodation and we expect volunteers to respect them. Food will be done in supply.
Participants will have an introduction to the tasks, projects and responsibilities they undertake. The variety of activities during the year will allow participant to experience more activities instead of having to do repetitive tasks during the project. We will arrange a personal learning plan for you and you will be introduced and accompanied by both your supervisor and your mentor. Other specific training opportunities will depend on the responsibilities of the participant.
