HUJ (Armenian Volunteer Exchange Network) is a nonprofit organization that promotes voluntary service and non-formal education through international work camps, 12 long-term ESC projects, and youth exchanges. Founded in 1965, HUJ empowers young people to engage in community development, cultural exchange, and social inclusion both in Armenia and abroad.
Desired volunteer profileWe are looking for flexible, compassionate, and proactive volunteers who are ready to work with children, including children with disabilities, and with people from socially vulnerable families. Volunteers should be adaptable to different tasks, from assisting in educational and cultural programs to supporting community and humanitarian activities. A positive attitude, empathy, and openness to intercultural exchange are essential. No specific professional background is required—motivation and a genuine willingness to contribute are the main criteria.
Description of the activityThe volunteer will work primarily with children from socially vulnerable families in the “Huysi Avan” district, organizing cultural and educational activities such as singing, dancing, painting, and games. They will also assist in the renovation and maintenance of the Development Center for Children, support cleaning activities in the district, and help distribute food, clothing, and school supplies.
Additional tasks include preparing food packages in the warehouse, visiting families in different regions of Armenia to assess needs, and taking photographs for documentation. Volunteers will also organize recreational activities for children with disabilities, participate in summer camps, and share their own culture through songs, dances, and presentations.
The volunteer will be provided with free accommodation in a dormitory in Yerevan, located within reasonable distance from the HUJ office. The volunteers will stay in twin rooms (2 people per room) and the dormitory will be equipped with basic furniture and kitchen facilities.
The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance for food, transport and other expenses. The volunteer will benefit from language support and mentorship throughout the project. In addition to their regular project activities, HUJ also organizes a variety of cultural and social events for volunteers. These may include visits to museums, ballet and opera performances, as well as excursions to explore areas outside the capital.
