Der Service Civil International (SCI) ist eine der ältesten Friedens- und Freiwilligenorganisationen (NGO/NPO) weltweit, mit 100 Jahren an Erfahrung in der Koordinationen von Freiwilligenprojekten sowie Austauschprogrammen.
SCI Austria ist der österreichische Zweig des Service Civil International und wurde 1947 gegründet. Der SCI Austria wird fast ausschließlich ehrenamtlich geführt. Der Großteil der aktiven MitgliederInnen besteht aus StudentInnen, welche die Büroarbeit, die Koordination der Freiwilligenprojekte, das Versenden und Vorbereiten der Freiwilligen, die Organisation von Veranstaltungen und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit sowie die internationalen Kooperationen leiten. Der Service Civil International (SCI) definiert sich als Friedensorganisation und ist weltweit eine der ältesten und größten Organisationen im Bereich der Freiwilligenarbeit. Der SCI versteht sich als non-govermental (NGO) und non-profit (NPO) Organisation und ist weder politisch noch konfessionell gebunden.
Heute besteht unser Netzwerk aus 44 Zweigen und vielen Partnerorganisationen Weltweit.
We welcome volunteers who are curious, open and ready to share and learn in an international group. Participants should enjoy working together, contributing to daily tasks and creating a supportive group atmosphere. No previous experience is needed – motivation, openness and willingness to participate are what matter most.
The work will be physical and in steep terrain. Therefore, some basic fitness as well as solid ankle-high hiking boots are required. Before you sign up for this camp, PLEASE make sure that you are healthy enough to participate. People with a strong bee allergy are not recommended to participate. Biodiversity-rich areas are under increasing pressure. This project invites you to actively support nature conservation in one of Austria’s most unique protected landscape.
Join an international group of volunteers and contribute to preserving these ecosystems by removing invasive plant species and maintaining species-rich alpine meadows. At the same time, you will experience the beauty of remote mountain landscapes and live close to nature.
Study theme
You will gather knowledge of the region of the National Park Gesäuse & Nature Park Styrian Eisenwurzen and its flora and fauna. Furthermore, you will gain hands-on experience in managing invasive plant species and in maintaining the since generations human-shaped natural landscapes of alpine meadows.
Work description
In both National Park Gesäuse & Nature Park Styrian Eisenwurzen we will remove invasive plants to prevent irreversible anthropogenic effects on sensitive ecosystems. We will also have time to get to know each other and enjoy the summer in the mountains.
