Der Service Civil International (SCI) ist eine der ältesten Friedens- und Freiwilligenorganisationen (NGO/NPO) weltweit, mit 100 Jahren an Erfahrung in der Koordinationen von Freiwilligenprojekten sowie Austauschprogrammen.

SCI Austria ist der österreichische Zweig des Service Civil International und wurde 1947 gegründet. Der SCI Austria wird fast ausschließlich ehrenamtlich geführt. Der Großteil der aktiven MitgliederInnen besteht aus StudentInnen, welche die Büroarbeit, die Koordination der Freiwilligenprojekte, das Versenden und Vorbereiten der Freiwilligen, die Organisation von Veranstaltungen und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit sowie die internationalen Kooperationen leiten. Der Service Civil International (SCI) definiert sich als Friedensorganisation und ist weltweit eine der ältesten und größten Organisationen im Bereich der Freiwilligenarbeit. Der SCI versteht sich als non-govermental (NGO) und non-profit (NPO) Organisation und ist weder politisch noch konfessionell gebunden.

Heute besteht unser Netzwerk aus 44 Zweigen und vielen Partnerorganisationen Weltweit.

Desired volunteer profile

We are looking for motivated and open-minded volunteers who are interested in teamwork and intercultural exchange. Participants should be willing to engage in practical work and contribute actively to the group life. Flexibility, a positive attitude and respect for others are important. No specific skills are required, but interest in the project topic and readiness to learn are highly appreciated.

Description of the activity

During this camp, participants will help the local community in Schönau an der Triesing, lower Austria, by renovating and gardening at the Waldorf School. Apart from supporting school renovation and gaining hands-on experience on gardening, you will have a chance to participate in workshops that will focus on environmental issues, sustainability, nature conservation and the history and the values of the Service Civil International (SCI).

Study theme
You will gain hands-on experience in gardening and renovation. You will also reflect on the peace values of the SCI. We set this study activity up to be a lot of fun, with a diverse range of methods, with movement and without formalities. We will have discussions, play games and talk about climate, environment and sustainability.

Work description
Every summer a new part of the school building and the garden is renovated. This year the plan is to paint the classrooms, to do some gardening, wood work, other building and renovation tasks. No previous experience is required.

Apart from school renovation there will be a study part activities focused on environment, climate and sustainability. We will have group discussions, reflections, interactive games, videos and documentaries about this theme.

Further information

Volunteers will live together as a group and share daily responsibilities such as cooking, cleaning and organizing free time activities. The camp is based on cooperation and collective decision-making.
